Dr. Richard T. Steffen received his medical training from the University of Miami’s School of Medicine in Miami, Florida and performed his residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland, AFB in San Antonio, Texas.His post graduate medical experience includes: General Surgery Internship at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, USAF Flight Surgeon at McConnell AFB in Kansas, Theater Flight Surgeon in Restore Hope (Sammolia, Africa), and Teaching Staff for Emory Riddle University in Florida. Dr. Steffen is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of theAmerican Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship under the direction of Dr. Jesse DeLee in San Antonio. He specializes in surgical treatment of shoulder, hip, and knee injuries.

I have literally NOTHING but WONDERFUL things to say about this hospital. I had a procedure done yesterday and the care from start to finish was phenomenal. All nurses I met were so kind and attentive! My procedure was explained to me multiple times and all expectations were set clearly and accurately. My surgeon was lovely and kind as well. Just so grateful for such a great experience!!!

This surgical hospital has amazing staff! From their front desk intake to the nursing staff my 2-day inpatient stay was the best experience hands down. The nurses were genuinely kind and interested in making sure I was comfortable and cared for. The food was nourishing. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. Anyone out there whose doctor is a member of this facility – it’s truly fantastic!

The nursing staff at Foundation Surgical Hospital made me feel that they had a true concern for my well being. They showed a bedside manner that went beyond their job classification of nursing, their empathy was strongly reflexed in their prompt response to any needs I may have had.. This nursing staff goes beyond the call of duty and I can not praise them enough.

The folks at Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio were fantastic. This includes the anesthesiologist, the nurses, the surgeons and all the other support staff that were involved with my hip replacement surgery.
As soon as the surgery was over these same people were at my side to make sure that my pain was being managed adequately. These same people followed up with phone calls to my home to ensure I was doing okay with my rehab and pain meds. (Hip Replacement is PAINFUL, so pain meds are important). These folks even sent me a ‘get well card’ with signatures of every nurse and doctor on it. You could not be in better hands with these folks.
