From lap band to gastric bypass, we have the most compassionate and skilled weight loss doctors in San Antonio.

The Bariatric Best
Our patients are our top priority, which is why we are proud to have some of the best, most experienced bariatric surgeons in Texas. All of our bariatric surgeons are fellowship-trained, board-certified, Center of Excellence surgeons. In fact, we have a National REALIZE™ Band Proctor and a Gastric Bypass Proctor — members of very select groups that train other surgeons. These surgeons are not only some of the best in their field but they have an extraordinary passion for helping you in your weight loss journey. Find out more about them and how they can help you at one of our FREE Weight Loss Seminars.

Built For Bariatrics
From the ground up, Foundation Surgical Hospital was built with the bariatric patient in mind. Everything from the design of the chairs throughout the hospital to the inclusion of a 2,000 square foot workout facility in the HealthPlex that allows our bariatric patients to find everything they need  on one convenient medical campus.

Comprehensive Care
Unlike most programs that have patients running to multiple locations for pre-and-post-operative care, Foundation Surgical Hospital provides all the additional services you will need at one location, including:

• Gym specially equipped for bariatric patients
• Aquatic pool for water exercise including an underwater treadmill
• Physiologists on-site
• Nutritional supplements specific for bariatrics can be ordered on-site
• Pre and post operative support groups
• RN bariatric coordinator

Bariatric Surgical Procedures
Foundation Surgical Hospital performs all of the latest bariatric surgery procedures including:

Laparoscopic Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass:
Surgical stapling reduces the stomach to a small “pouch” which restricts the amount of food required to produce a feeling of fullness (satiety). This procedure is performed laparoscopically (minimally invasive) and generally requires a 2-3 day hospital stay and a 2-3 week recovery.
• Extensively studied and most frequently performed weight loss surgery in the U.S.
• Restrictive and malabsorptive components to the procedure
• Complex procedure affecting multiple areas of the abdomen
• Lower stomach remains healthy and intact
• Less tolerance for foods high in sugar and fat
• Requires long term vitamin and mineral supplementation
• Does not require the implantation of a foreign device
• Initial and sustained weight loss ranging from 60% to 75% of excess body weight
• Not reversible

Sleeve Gastrectomy:
In this procedure, a portion of the stomach is removed and the remaining stomach is the shape of a slender tube that greatly limits the amount of food that can be consumed. This procedure is also performed laparoscopically (minimally invasive). You can expect a 2-3 day hospital stay and a 2-3 week recovery.
• Perioperative risk appears low, even in high-risk patients
• 70% to 80% of the stomach is removed
• Requires long term vitamin and mineral supplementation
• Does not require the implantation of a foreign device
• Documented weight loss ranging from 33% to 83% of excess body weight
• Not reversible, but can be converted to a Gastric Bypass

LAP-BAND©:
A band is placed over a portion of the stomach and is gradually tightened over the course of several months to slowly reduce the amount of food required for satiety. This procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis and usually requires 1-2 weeks for recovery.
• Less invasive procedure with lower surgical risks
• Food is processed through normal digestion and absorption
• Requires long term vitamin and mineral supplementation
• Documented weight loss ranging from 40% to 60% of excess body weight
• Frequent adjustments required to control band restriction
• Requires implantation of the gastric band
