Michael "Mickey" Seger, MD, Bariatric Surgery
Dr. Seger, a native of Lubbock, Texas, completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in zoology at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. His residency training was completed at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, followed by an advanced laparoscopic fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston under the guidance of Dr. Philip L. Leggett. While primarily focused on weight loss surgery, Dr. Seger performs a wide range of minimally invasive surgical procedures, including complex abdominal operations on the stomach, colon, intestine, spleen, kidney, pancreas, liver, gall bladder and adrenal glands. As is typical with laparoscopic procedures, the patient usually experiences less pain and a shorter recovery period. He founded the Minimally Invasive Surgeons of Texas Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery training program, located in San Antonio. The program trains surgeons from all over the United States in these specialized procedures. Dr. Seger is also a National Proctor for the REALIZE adjustable gastric band. Dr. Seger was named a "Top Doctor" in the most recent issue of Scene in SA Monthly magazine in the area of bariatric surgery. His professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, Bexar County Medical Society, Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons, of which he is a past board member and treasurer. Dr. Seger has also presented numerous articles on laparoscopic surgery at national and international meetings.
