 | Michael Leonard, MD, Spine & Neurosurgery
Dr. Michael A. Leonard, Executive Director of the Alamo Neurosurgical Institute, is a board-certified neurosurgeon treating surgical disorders of the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. Educated and trained in New York, Dr. Leonard gained broad exposure to all aspects of neurosurgery. After obtaining his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Leonard then completed his neurosurgery residency, as well as a fellowship in spine surgery, at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital.
Dr. Leonard’s Air Force career brought him to San Antonio, where he was the Director of Spine Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center for three years before leaving the military and establishing the Alamo Neurosurgical Institute. Dr. Leonard also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Center for Neurosurgical Sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center, and has authored numerous articles on a variety of topics in neurosurgery.
Dr. Leonard utilizes the latest minimally invasive technologies to treat the full spectrum of neurosurgical disorders, including the artificial disc, and kyphoplasty for osteoporotic bone fractures. Dr. Leonard believes that optimal patient outcome is achieved when a caring physician takes the time to listen to the patient and carefully explain all the treatment options available, so patients can make an informed decision about their care.
