Dr. Mark Katz is a native of Virginia. He moved to Texas in 2004. Dr. Katz graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry and Economics prior to earning his Doctorate in Medicine from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine in 1995.  He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery in 2000 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  Dr. Katz completed his post graduate specialty training with a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery, under the mentorship of James R. Urbaniak, MD of Duke University. Dr. Katz has additional specialty training in free vascularized fibular grafting with hip osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis; AVN) and complex fractures. Dr. Katz has special interest in treating patients with wrist and elbow problems.

Dr. Katz is on the medical staff of Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio.  Dr. Katz is licensed by the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Texas.  Dr. Katz is certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.  He has an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dr. Katz is professionally a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Piedmont Orthopedic Society, Duke Hand Club, National Osteonecrosis Foundation, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
